Licensing![]() Source code, executables and documentation can be downloaded from opensolaris.org. This site also contains pointers to information that can be downloaded from other servers. Most of this data is covered by licenses that should be reviewed prior to executing a download. This page outlines the most common types of licenses used on opensolaris.org. All license information should be reviewed carefully before downloading. Source LicensesThe majority of OpenSolaris code is released under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) Version 1.0 (.txt) (Chinese Translation - 通用开发和发布许可). The CDDL is an Open Source Initiative (OSI)-approved open source license. Please review the CDDL FAQ for more information about the CDDL. The OpenSolaris project also includes a number of components based on existing open source projects. These components will continue
Full text of OSI-approved licenses can be found on the OSI website. Each consolidation/project on opensolaris.org defines the license it will use for contributions. Refer to individual project information for details. Binary LicensesThe OpenSolaris Binary License is used for binaries built from proprietary source or from source that is covered by multiple licenses. Some binaries are provided as a convenience, while other binaries represent source that can not or is not ready to be released as open source. For these binaries, each tarball available for download includes a file that contains the full text of the OpenSolaris Binary License. Please refer to the OpenSolaris Binary License FAQ for more information. Note that there may also be binaries available for download that are covered by other licenses. For example, there may be some driver binaries provided under a BSD-style license, and there may be binaries offered as a convenience that are built from source licensed using the CDDL (so the binaries would also be covered by the CDDL). Documentation LicenseOpenSolaris documentation source is released under one of two licenses.
Where appropriate, third-party and open source licenses are retained and included in documentation source. |
